ABOUT HEATHER

FERRIS MEd CCC:

Heather Ferris and Gary Greenstein had an extraordinary love story. Their relationship for twenty-six years embodied love at a deep level. Heather is a compassionate psychotherapist in private practice, a trainer working with hospice volunteers and community grief, all requiring great love and presence. She is also a speaker, workshop presenter and a teacher of mindfulness meditation, providing 5-day silent retreats.

Caregiving is not new to Heather or her husband Gary, who had dementia from 2020, first at home and for a short time living in a residential care setting, until his death in May, 2024. Heather and Gary spent 20 years working with caregivers and HIV and AIDs in Southern Africa. In addition, Heather, at twenty-six years, was the major caregiver to her first husband for almost six months at home as he navigated terminal brain cancer before his death in 1973.

Heather Ferris is a much-loved teacher. She was interviewed by Dr Catherine Richardson, professor of First Nations studies at Concordia university for her work in counseling and activism. CBC interviewed her for a previous book, Psoriasis, Healing from the Inside Out that has helped countless individuals with chronic disease. Her meditation retreats have many followers as the benefit of silence and meditation transforms our lives.
